Calculus AB

Mike Campbell

Mike Campbell teaches at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL. He has been teaching Calculus since 1996 and has been an AP Grader since 2005. Mike has been lucky enough to have graded the operational, international, and alternate exams throughout the years. He has won various teaching awards and has become a consultant for the AP exam. He is passionate about helping other teachers help their students to be the best they can be.

Computer Science Principles

Andrew Kuemmel

Andy Kuemmel was on the first AP CS Principles Test Development Committee. He has taught AP CS Principles as a Pilot Instructor and teacher at West High School in Madison, Wisconsin, where he created his own CSP curriculum for students in his district. He authored several College Board documents, including a CS Principles course Planning and Pacing Guide and a set of official Practice Exam Solution explanations. He has served as a reader and table leader for the CS Principles reading, authored the official solutions to a College Board Practice Exam, and is a contributing CS Principles question writer for ETS. Andy also has worked as the College Board CS Principles Teacher Community Moderator and as a College Board Online Mentor.  Andy led several training sessions for CS Principles Pilot Instructors and Consultants, has presented several summer institutes across the country, and has presented workshops at CSTA, SIGCSE, and the AP Annual Conference.

English Language and Composition (New)

Stephen Heller

Stephen Heller has completed 31 years of teaching, the last 20 at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois where he teaches AP* English Language and Composition and Freshman Accelerated English. A past question leader, table leader, and reader for the AP* English Language and Composition exam, Steve also served on the AP* Language and Composition Test Development Committee, and he is a contributing author for exam questions. His publications include two textbooks with Peoples Publishing: AP* English Bound, which features lesson plans for the pre-AP* classroom, and Entering the Conversation, a writing textbook geared for students in AP* English Language and AP* English Literature. Along with Jason Stacy, Steve co-authored Documenting US History, a textbook that reflected the revised critical thinking skills for the APUSH curriculum. Steve is a graduate of Northwestern University, and he worked as an instructor at NU's Center for Talent Development — focusing on accelerated language arts courses — from 1987 until 2008.  Steve has most recently been accepted as a College Board national faculty consultant for pre-AP English programs. Steve also serves as a varsity debate coach

English Language and Composition (Experienced)

Lloyd Hoshaw

Lloyd Hoshaw has taught language arts and composition in public high schools for over 20 years. But his study of rhetoric began at age 10 with the careful creation of mixtapes, honing his skills of language selection to attend to an audience, and more recently with crafted playlists to mold his three children’s taste in music. Today, Lloyd teaches at Millard West High School in Omaha, Nebraska, where he established the AP* English Language & Composition course over a decade ago and created the co-taught interdisciplinary AP* Language and AP* United States History course 8 years ago. Along with Matthew Heys, AP* US History, Lloyd co-authored a Teacher’s Guide to use with Conversations in American Literature and America’s History, For the AP* Course published by Bedford/St. Martin’s. Lloyd has served as a reader for the AP* English Language and Composition exam since 2013 and as a co-presenter on topics related to partnering AP* English Language with interdisciplinary work at NCTE (‘14, ‘16), NCSS (‘15, ‘17), and the AP* National Conference (‘16). In addition to teaching AP* Language and Composition, Lloyd acts as the English Department Head, teaches Literature & Film, and two courses in the Millard Education Academy focused on developing future educators.  

English Literature and Composition (New & Experienced)

Abbie Fishman

Abbie Fishman is an experienced Advanced Placement English Literature & Composition teacher with Milwaukee Public Schools and a reader of the AP English Lit exam.  She is currently an Advanced Academic Coach with MPS supporting Advanced Placement courses, teachers, and students in seventeen high schools.  In addition to her work as a public school teacher, Abbie is a National Writing Project teacher consultant and is serving as a committee chairperson to revise Wisconsin’s English/ Language Arts standards.  She has taught pre-service teachers and English at Milwaukee area colleges and universities.  Her work as a consultant for the past three years is informed by these experiences, participants experiences, and her passion for social justice.  In her free time Abbie enjoys bicycling, vegetarian cooking, spending time with friends and dogs, reading and writing. 

European History

Chris Freiler

Chris Freiler has taught Advanced Placement European History at Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Illinois since 1993. Additionally, he has taught Philosophy Honors since 2003, a course he proposed and developed. He has also served since 1997 as a reader, table leader, question leader, exam leader, and assistant chief reader for the AP European History annual exam scoring. From 1998 to 2002, Chris served on the test development committee (and later as an independent consultant) for AP European History, in the process authoring three document-based questions used on the national exam. From 2006-14, Chris served on the College Board Commission that redesigned European History, the last three years as co-chair of the Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee. He has authored an AP European test preparation book, published by McGraw-Hill, entitled AP Achiever: Advanced Placement Exam Preparation Guide for European History. Chris has been a College Board consultant since 1998 and presents one-day workshops during the school year and several week-long institutes each summer.

German Language and Culture

Linda Zins-Adams 

Linda Zins-Adams serves as the World Language Department Chair and coordinator of the Chaminade Global Scholars at Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has taught German for nearly thirty years and is a certified and trained AP consultant, reader/table leader, and reviewer for College Board and has conducted numerous state-level, regional, and national workshops and webinars. Additionally, Linda served from 2015-2019 as the advisor to the AP German Language and Culture Development Committee, which consists of university and high school instructors and together they write the AP German Language and Culture Exam. She has received the Distinguished Alumna from the University of Cincinnati, the Federal Republic of Germany Friendship Award, and the AATG/Goethe-Institut Certificate of Merit, the Award for Excellence in Foreign Language Instruction Using Technology with IALLT (K-12), and AATG's Outstanding German Educator. After earning the title of "Teacher of the Year" in the southern region, Linda served as President of the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) (a regional organization for all World Language teachers) and during her term on the SCOLT board she also served as the editor of the newsletter, SCOLTalk and the Awards Chair.

French Language and Culture

Eliane Kurbegov

Eliane Kurbegov has taught all levels of French in Florida and Colorado high schools; she is currently an adjunct professor of French at Miami Dade College. She has served the College Board in multiple capacities over the course of many years: she participated in AP readings as table and question leader, served on the AP French Language test development committee, trained and mentored CB consultants. She currently conducts CB workshops and monitors the AP French Language and Culture Community website. Eliane has also recently co-authored the Barron’s Guide to the AP French Language and Culture exam as well as the textbook Thèmes published by VHL, in addition to having written many French manuals for McGraw-Hill. Eliane Kurbegov is a native speaker of French who was twice awarded the Palmes Académiques for her promotion of the French culture and language. Most importantly, Eliane has a true passion for the teaching of French and for sharing her life-long experiences with her esteemed colleagues.

Human Geography

Greg Sherwin

Greg Sherwin has taught AP® Human Geography from its origins in 2000-2001 at Stevenson High School in Chicago’s northern suburbs. In addition to teaching, he is active in AP Human Geography community and currently mentors new human geography teachers for the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio. Furthermore, he recently coauthored Human Geography for the AP® Course with Erin Fouberg, Alec Murphy and Paul Gray (March 2020).  Previously, he teamed up with the same writers for the 10th and 11th editions of Advanced Placement Study Guide for Human Geography: People, Place and Culture.

Mr. Sherwin served on the AP Human Geography Test Development Committee (2002-2006) and has served in a variety of leadership capacities at the annual AP® Human Geography reading. In 2015, he received a Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Council for Geography Education (NCGE).  Additionally, he has teamed up other expert AP® Human Geography teachers to create an app (iScore5) to prepare students for the exam. His cultural landscape field study assignment was recognized by the College Board and is available on the AP® Central Website.

Psychology

Tina Athanasopoulos

Tina Athanasopoulos has taught AP® Psychology since 1997 and implemented the AP® Psychology program for District 214 in Illinois. She currently teaches at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, IL. She was on the Test Development Committee for the AP® Psychology exam from 2005 through 2009. She has been involved with the AP® Psychology Reading since 2000 as a Reader, Table Leader, and Exam Leader. She currently serves as the Assistant Chief Reader. Tina has also been a College Board® consultant since 2001 and has presented at College Board® workshops across the country. Tina received a BS in Psychology and Social Science Secondary Education from Loyola University of Chicago, an MA in School Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University, and a CAS in Education Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Spanish Language and Culture

Ken Stewart

Ken Stewart is the 2006 ACTFL National Foreign Language Teacher of Year. He currently teaches Spanish at Duke University in North Carolina. A National Board Certified high school Spanish teacher, he has taught middle grades through college. Ken is a recent member of the ACTFL Board of Directors, the SCOLT Board, and the Executive Council of the AATSP. In 2014, he was the recipient of ACTFL’s Florence Steiner Award for Leadership in Foreign Language Education K-12. Ken has been a consultant to the College Board since 1992. He has served on the AP Spanish Language and Culture Test Development Committee, as a question leader at the AP Reading, and has been a national consultant for over 25 years. He has conducted over 200 AP and pre-AP workshops and summer institutes throughout the US as well as in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Ken works as a freelance world language consultant and keynote speaker. An aficionado of travel, he speaks Spanish, Portuguese and some French; he has traveled in 43 countries. Ken received his BA in International Studies and Spanish from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a MA Spanish from NC State University.

Statistics

Chris True 

Chris True has been teaching AP Statistics and AP Calculus in Nebraska since 1998. He has served as an AP Statistics reader, table leader and a member of the rubric team for the past 14 years. He has presented dozens of AP Statistics Summer Institutes, College Board workshops, AP Annual Conferences, National Math and Science Initiative teacher trainings and student study sessions. He has also presented at several regional, national and international Texas Instruments conferences. He has served as the Director of Mathematics Programs for the National Math and Science Initiative. He currently teaches Statistics at the University of Arizona. Previously, He taught Calculus II and III at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he also served as a coach and mentor to the graduate teaching assistants who are teaching the recitation sections of Calculus I and II.

Government and Politics - US

Bryan Ashkettle

Bryan Ashkettle is currently an AP US Government and Politics teacher at Solon High School near Cleveland, Ohio. This is his 25th year in the profession with 19 years’ experience teaching AP Government. He has been an AP Reader for 14 years and was hired by the College Board to be an AP Consultant in 2015.  He has taught various one-day workshops and AP Summer Institutes throughout the United States.  Bryan Ashkettle received his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University in 2014.  He is also an adjunct professor and consultant in Teacher Education at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio.  His research interest is self-study as a tool to better instructional practice. His lives Chagrin Falls, Ohio with his wife Stefanie (also a teacher) and their two daughters — Frankie, 13 and Julia, 15.

U.S. History

Christine Custred 

Christine Bond-Custred currently teaches Advanced Placement (AP) United States History and AP World History at Edmond Memorial High School, in Edmond OK.   She has taught AP United States History since 1998 and AP World History since 2007. She holds a Master’s degree in Education Administration and in school counseling (M.Ed.) and is a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).  Ms. Custred has been a College Board consultant since 2000, presenting at numerous College Board institutes including international institutes.  She has been an AP Summer Institute consultant since 2003, presenting at well over 50 summer institutes.  She co-authored the Research and Education Association (REA) test prep book for AP United States History, she wrote the AP review questions for the AP edition of the Making America textbook, she co-authored the Fast Track to a 5 for AP World History and was a contributing author of the teacher’s edition of the Ways of the World textbook.  She has developed and team taught a combination course that bridges AP U. S. History and AP English Language and has co-presented at a Southwest Regional College Board conference and presented at the AP annual conference in Orlando in July, 2019.   She served as an AP mentor from 2015-2017, this mentoring program, designed and offered by the College Board, entailed conducting once a month webinars with new AP United States history teachers.  She is currently serving her second of three years as a member of the consultant advisory panel for the College Board. She has served as a reader for the AP World History exam and is currently a table leader at the AP United States History reading.


World History: Modern

Ryba Epstein 

Ryba Epstein has been an AP World History workshop consultant since 2004 and has recently completed a trainers’ workshop for the new AP World History—Modern course. In addition, she has conducted national “train-the-trainer” workshops for AP World History and has been a table leader and question leader for the AP World History Exam. While a member of the AP World History Development Committee, Epstein created a syllabus for the AP World History Teachers Guide, a pacing guide for the revised AP World History course, as well as professional development materials. She is a contributor to George Mason University’s web sites “Women in World History” and “Children and Youth in World History.” In addition, she has authored review materials and test bank questions for both high school and college level world history textbooks. Other publications include: “Discovering Global Patterns: How Student-Centered Internet Research Can Build a Genuine World History Perspective,” in Teaching World History in the Twenty-first Century. She has taught Advanced Placement courses in World History, European History and English Literature. Epstein’s M.A. and PhD are from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign; she received her A.B. from UCLA. Her doctoral dissertation was an interdisciplinary study of African oral epic poetry.
