In addition to offering career advising, SPS Career Services works with the Northwestern University community and employers to provide opportunities and resources which promote the professional development of our students and alumni.
Career Advising
SPS degree-seeking and certificate students are encouraged to discuss their career goals with their academic advisers. SPS academic advisers are available to help with job search strategies, resume review, and provide program-tailored career advice.
Northwestern Career Advancement
Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA) is a comprehensive career services office on the Evanston campus that provides an extensive range of advising, programming and resources to all Northwestern University degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students. Recent alumni have access to NCA for six months post-graduation.

Northwestern University Career Tools (Require NetID login, or were created by Northwestern. Active and enrolled students in degree-seeking programs who have completed Performance-Based Admission requirements are eligible for Northwestern University programs.)
Handshake - Handshake is Northwestern Career Advancement's platform for career activities (events, information sessions, workshops) and job and internship opportunities. For more information on utilizing the Handshake platform, please visit the Handshake Help Center.
Career Insider (Vault)- Career Insider (Powered by Vault) is the world’s leading source of Career Intelligence. It will make your efforts at researching employers, industries, and career subjects infinitely easier and more efficient.
CQ Interactive- This interview preparation resource includes math drills, interactive cases and more.
Enhance Your Career- Northwestern Alumni Association has the career resources and the network to support you, whether you’re looking for an event, expert advice, or a valuable career connection.
Hoovers- Hoovers online promises to deliver comprehensive insight and analysis about the companies, industries and people that drive the economy, along with the powerful tools to find and connect to the right people to get business done.
Network Mentorship Program- The Northwestern Network Mentorship Program was designed by the Northwestern Alumni Association (NAA) to foster meaningful relationships between alumni mentors and alumni or student mentees that will help mentees better navigate their career path.
Northwestern Externship Program- Northwestern Externship Program (NEXT) is a one-day job shadowing program that helps current Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students learn more about a professional field of interest.
Our Northwestern- Our Northwestern is an online database of NU Alumni for informational interviewing and networking purposes. Search by industry, occupational area, graduation date, and more.
Uniworld- Uniworld is a directory of American firms operating in foreign countries and foreign firms operating in the U.S.
VMock- VMock is an online resume preparation platform. VMock allows students to upload a resume and receive a critique of both the format and the content of the resume.
General Career Tools
Glassdoor- Glassdoor is an online career website where students can look up company reviews, salary information, job postings, and interview questions and questions.
Idealist- The world's best place to find volunteer opportunities, nonprofit jobs, internships, and organizations working to change the world since 1995.
LinkedIn Job Search - LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network, which can be used to build relationships and connect with opportunities. Use LinkedIn Job Search to uncover insights such as whom you know at a company, which can you insight and connections to gain an edge in your job search.
LinkedIn Salary - LinkedIn Salary which allows professionals to look up aggregate data about the salaries of other users with the same job in the same location to see how their own pay measures up.
Occupational Outlook Handbook- The OOH can help you find career information on duties, education and training, pay, and outlook for hundreds of occupations.
Udacity- Google and Udacity have teamed up to offer 12 free career courses for recent graduates, mid-career professionals and those re-entering the workforce.
